If only we really knew.
We live expecting the sun to go on,
Rising and setting.
Having the world at our fingertips,
But sitting still. Watching. Waiting.
If only we really knew.
That the world we see before us,
Will not always be.
That time can’t be paused,
But it flows as a constant reminder
Of how little time we have.
If only we really knew.
That one day all that will be left
Are empty dreams.
Memories of what once was, will be the only
String to hold onto.
Time flows on,
As all the candles will turn to shadows.
If only we really knew.
If only we really knew, that this life
Isn’t just made for us to strive,
But to be in the moment
For moments turn to memories and
Only regret of what we didn’t do,
How we didn’t stop and be.
If only we really knew that a single
Smile may change a day.
But a conversation could change a heart.
If only we really knew.
Our time here counts, no matter how big your dash is.
With every comment and heartbeat,
The grains of sand under every step are
Squished and moulded into a mark
Left in the end.
But if you don’t step, not even one.
You will never leave anything but empty space.
If only we really knew.
If only we really knew.
Each footprint of your life,
Encourages others to move.
To live their lives in the moment.
Time runs by flowing and if we wait
Too long.
Too long to say what we mean.
Too long to step out and live,
Truly live.
Then all we have left is the memories.
The memories of empty moments,
If only we really knew.
