The My Edge Mag is a magazine dedicated to creating discussion and content for the youth by the youth.

My Edge Mag is the official ministry magazine of the Youth Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Australia and has modified over time to remain edgy and relevant to youth and young adults. From its inception to creation and from print pages to web pages, this magazine has maintained its integrity, to withstand competition and quickly became a household name.

Since the printed publication launched in 1997, EDGE Magazine undertook a few changes and was reborn 18 months later as MyEDGEMag, in the Spring of 2011. It was published quarterly, and past editions remain available in print form as well as through this online edition. And now it’s coming back for its second resurrection as an online media platform.

History

THE RATIONALE

Edge was created by editors, Brenton Stacey and Bruce Manners, at Signs Publishing Company in 1997. They were editors for Record—the Adventist Church’s news magazine—but wanted something specifically geared for young people. The motivation arose from evidence-based studies that revealed the age when a person decides whether to follow Jesus. They found that young people made their most important choices about faith and church, during their final years of high school, through to their time of further study or first jobs.

THE BEGINNING

Technically, Edge was published as a ‘youth supplement’ to Record during 1997 to early 2000’s. It began with a large format ‘street press’ look in its first four years, publishing four issues per year. In 2001, it adopted a smaller format and grew to six publish issues per year. This totalled 74 issues by the time it was discontinued by Record in September of 2009. Brenton Stacey remained one of the editors during this time but was joined by Kellie Hancock and Adele Nash.

THE REBIRTH

In the early-2000s, the first Edge website was developed which grew of its time. An EDGE TV was also created during this time which produced 26 episodes of youth content. This chapter of The Edge was focused on youth issues, faith questions, reviews of films, music and books, and occasional church news focused on young people.

THE NOW

Myedgemag.com has undergone a second rebirth of its The Edge branding, for an all-online magazine. We aim to maintain its Integrity by providing content that is relevant and relatable for our audience. This media platform will see that Edge continues to capture the youth audience and provide a guide to understanding world culture and trends through a Christian lens.
