Sparkles
Green leaves,
A sunrise.
We forget the anguished cries
That birthed this moment
The darkness stifling the dawn.
We celebrate the sparks of new life,
The butterfly’s flawless wings
The bird that sings at glowing light
But not the night,
The curtains drawn on life before.
The caterpillar falling apart,
The future work of art unsure
To start again
Requires an end.
To love and pain alike
To watch the sunset spill across the sky
Knowing of the night ahead.
The 40 years of wandering
Before a place to rebuild
Suitcases filled heavy with memories
Of things unsaid.
Centuries of sunshine and rain,
Bittersweet goodbyes
Severed ties to the life that has died.
Let’s not forget that the
Beauty of the butterfly
Began with the sunset
Of a caterpillar’s life
Ended before flight.
Let’s not fight
Those times of darkness
Because their labour pains
Brought this new beginning.
