We are living in an ever-changing world which is getting busier and busier. The hustle-and-bustle of life can easily cause us to become disconnected from our community and even those quite close to us. Like a congregation singing different hymns in different keys at the same time… which would not sound any good.
Our busy lives can also distract us from our purpose on this earth which is best summed up by a request Jesus made before He ascended into Heaven: “That you love one another; as I have loved you”.

We are to love all humanity as Christ loved us. He died on the cross so everyone who believes in Him and accepts Him will be saved. How can we be effective messengers of hope from now to the time Christ returns if we do not show love and compassion as Christ had?

In 1664 Samuel Crossman pencilled the words for the hymn “My Song is Love Unknown” about this very topic. Here are some of the words to the hymn:
“My song is love unknown, My Saviours love to me; Love to the loveless shown, that they might lovely be. ”

You may have noticed the not-so-subtle emphasis on ‘Love to the loveless shown’?

Throughout Christ’s ministry here on this earth, He proved His love for EVERYONE! He loved everyone He met and all those that He didn’t. Because of this selfless love He willingly gave His own life to give everyone the hope of eternal life.

If we look at Christ’s example of love and compassion for all humanity, we can break down the barriers and help the marginalised, the ridiculed and the oppressed to find Christ’s unending Love and Grace.

I pray that you will allow Christ to work through you as you live for Him.
