All natural elements of this world go through seasons. The leaves change colour, the air becomes crisp and the days are shortened. These signs not only symbolise an end to something but also of a beginning.
As a society, we often fall into the trap of glorifying ‘busy’. It is often a badge of honour or symbol of status. It can also be Satan’s trap to keep us working, to keep us labouring.
Jesus does the opposite. He calls those labouring to come to Him and to do one thing: rest. Rest in His love, His faithfulness and His Salvation (Matthew 11:28).
For the past few weeks all across the world, we have been called to a season of rest.
A season of patience.
A season to be slow.
As Ecclesiastes 3 points out, perhaps God is calling us into this season of isolation for a ‘purpose under heaven’.
God yearns for us to turn to Him, but how often do we choose to keep ourselves busy with anything but that which pertains to eternity?
So, in this time of quietness and isolation, seek what season of life God is calling you to. You may feel as if something has ended, but as all seasons indicate year after year, it may lead you to a more beautiful and fruitful beginning.
