It’s a savoury and spicy tofu dish with a flavourful sauce. It pairs perfectly with rice and is surprisingly easy to make!
The traditional ingredient is Korean red chilli flakes “gochugaru” which can be found at any Asian grocery mart.
INGREDIENTS
– 1 Block tofu (Korean tofu works best with the flavours)
– 1 white onion
– 2 cups green spring onion
Marinade:
– 1/2 cup of water
– 1/2 cup soy sauce
– 1/4 cup olive oil
– 3 tbsp minced garlic
– 3 tbsp Korean red pepper flakes
– 1 tbsp crushed sesame seeds
METHOD:
1. Drizzle about 2 tbsp of olive oil over a pot (just on a normal surface – no heat).
2. Cut white onion into slices and lay on the base of your pot.
3. Cut up your green spring onions into 2cm chunks and set them aside.
4. Mix together all ingredients for the marinade and add half a cup of the green spring onions into the marinade also.
5. Cut up your tofu into even squares about 1cm thickness and lay one layer over the white onions already in the pot.
6. Lightly salt the top of the tofu.
7. Pour over the marinade until all surfaces of the tofu are covered.
8. Sprinkle over a layer of fresh spring onions.
9. Repeat the layering process until you reach the top of your pot.
10. Pour over 3 tbsp of sesame oil over the dish.
11. Place the pot in the fridge and let it rest for 3-4hrs to marinade the tofu completely.
12. Place the pot on high heat until it bubbles and then change to low heat and allow to simmer until tofu is completely soft (about 20mins).
13. Serve immediately with rice and other side dishes!

There is also a video / IG reel of it on there too which hopefully will help as you follow along as you recreate it!
