When I think of community,
I think of unity.
The idea of people coming together,
Groups able to gather.
Strangers, friends and families,
Together to form forever memories.
Born and raised a ‘sevvie’,
I am surrounded by a community.
From sabbath school to church lunches,
I’m not alone in the trenches.
Though tough moments come and go,
Support from my communities overflow.
Moving from Mauritius to this new country,
A new community became my security.
Even when travelling overseas,
It’s a blessing to be part of new communities.
When a pandemic hit and causes tragedy,
We could ‘gather’ thanks to technology.
Communities rally around one another,
Supporting each other to fight our monsters.
Whether it’s in person or on a video,
Join a community and share your sorrows.
Rally around one another, share the love,
With a community, you can rise above.
I pray that you find your community,
And may it help you find your identity.
I hope that they surround you in the lows and highs,
Welcoming others, and never saying goodbyes.
Most of all, may your community have a focus,
On our Creator, our Father – Jesus.
