The Word of God has been a powerful influence in my life, and these are a few reasons why.
It is constant and does not change.
What God said 1000 years ago is still valuable advice today, and I can rely on it to help guide my life. In an age of constant change and uncertainty, this quality of God and His word has never been so alien and yet so needed. His Word always points true north.
Malachi 3:6 – “I am the Lord and I do not change.”
Hebrews 13: 8 – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
It convicts me of my worth in Christ.
While other influences lead me to doubt my value or abilities, the bible consistently convinces me that I am valuable in God’s sight and reminds me that He has a purpose for my life.
Psalms 139:14 – “I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Philippians 1:6 – “Being confident of this very thing, that he that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
It soothes and calms my mind.
Reading scripture leads me to the truth about whatever is on my mind and puts things in perspective. It calms me and whispers God’s truth and strength into me. It sets me free to focus on what is worthwhile.
Psalm 18:30 – “As for God, his way is perfect; the Lord’s word is flawless. He shields all who take refuge in Him.”
I praise God that he has provided us with the bible as a compass, to direct our lives and to point us back to Him.
