With so many marriages falling to pieces, so few of us are turning to Jesus.
Many critics cite marriage statistics.
But God created it for a purpose,
Though many are scared because it can hurt us.
The problem is in the interpretation.
The worlds watered-down version, a reformulation.
Of something so beautiful designed by God,
What others are chasing is merely a fraud.
Where I get what I desire and of my partner this I require.
If they refuse frustrated I walk,
Raising my voice when I dare to talk.
With a slam, the door is shoved,
Why will they not give me their love?
Can they not see that that’s what I need?
Anger has planted a seed.
What I expected they did not achieve,
So now as the world says it’s time to leave.
What I’m chasing seems normal on the surface,
But underneath the lust is perverted.
Pack my bags and look for someone else,
Whose broken self brings them me.
At first, they smile with glee,
Willing to do whatever it takes.
Disregarding my many mistakes.
Until the new becomes more of the same.
Then I’m out on my ear with a kick and a throw,
Just like I did swiftly they tell me to go.
Looking for meaning I wish to find,
Why did my life follow this line?
A narrative I had never desired,
Seemed rather appealing before all the fire.
Reach for my bible sitting there dusty.
My morals are weak, at best they are rusty.
These words which seem quixotic at first.
Start to get better with every verse.
In the beginning when God made the first man,
He made him a partner by his side to stand.
It was not good for man to be left lonely,
So He made him Eve ever so lovely.
The bible says marriage is filled with humility,
Reading this makes my heart feel guilty.
My pride was a barrier ever so filthy.
Stood between God and my one and only.
Two are better than one, from what I recall.
They help with getting up after a fall,
Although with someone it may not be fun.
It sure beats being an army of one.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
So why this path of two strands have I chosen?
God says be patient when your partner is onerous.
But the only patient I’ve been is to a psychologist.
Reading His word,
I’m seeing some wisdom.
Resonates with my mind,
I’m feeling the freedom.
The closer to God I climb,
The more it feels He was with me all the time.
And the gaps I’ve felt in my heart and my brain,
He knows how to fill and perfectly change.
Never had I understood the selfless love,
Putting another’s feelings and emotions above.
Caring for someone more than myself.
God’s plan for relationships was designed for health.
Now I care for people more,
Relationship work seems less a chore.
More of a gift to help us grow.
Less of a job just to smooth things over.
Armed with God’s companionship,
I now feel prepared for this three-way relationship.
My partner sees this change and they stare.
“How happy you seem, this is not fair.”
They want to know why I seem so cheerful.
Sit down I say and prepare for an earful.
Hesitant at first slowly they become open.
Maybe just maybe this is the solution.
Led by God’s example shining through me,
They too find their Lord.
He will be the third strand to our two-stranded cord.
Perfect it may not be, but the beauty finally I see.
How simple things in life can bring so much pleasure.
And the one I differed with now I love forever.
