New Year’s Resolutions?
What are they?
These are goals or achievements we want to make throughout this year.
Why do we make them?
Honestly, I don’t know why we make new year’s resolutions. To give us a sense of direction for that month or year? A guide to make us a better person and have a successful year.
The likeliness of keeping them?
Speaking for myself, I never tend to keep my resolutions for very long. They might last the first three months and then they will fall away. But then come back up in the middle of the year. You get the point I’m not consistent. But, I do commend those that are.
I will start my workout schedule cause I wanna look cute for my birthday, which is in March, but then find myself putting the pounds back on in April.
I know I’m bad, but you can’t honestly tell me you have met all your new year’s resolutions from last year.
I’ve figured out that I can’t just make these resolutions without making certain habits that will help me achieve these resolutions. So instead of making these massive goals and not knowing what happened to them by the end of the year. I started making small habit changes to help make my goals more attainable. Below is a list of how to change your resolutions into habits you can keep account of.
How to keep our new year’s resolutions or goals:
- Write them down – You need to see it with your eyes. Writing things down has a way of keeping them in your mind.
- Accountability person – Share your goals with someone so they can keep you accountable along the way. So if your resolution is to stop eating sugar let people know so that if you forget they might remind you, “Hey you can’t eat that it has sugar in it.”
- Keep daily track of the goal – Writing in a journal might be good for this. Keep a record to see if you are consistently building on your new habit. So if it’s getting fit make sure you keep up with your workout plan.
- Make a timetable – Building on no.3, write down the daily tasks you need to complete which add value to your end goal. It may be planning days for when to work on that new business idea or scheduling time for bible study.
- Short term goals – Make quarterly goals, this way every three months you can see if you are actually getting closer to the end goal.
It is okay if you don’t meet all of your resolutions this year. For, there are things that are not on your list that God might put there.
“In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Proverbs 16:19
So we shouldn’t have a fixed or closed mind on the goals we set. Things change and life happens. The goal might not change but how you get there and the time it takes to get there might.
Hope these tips help you smash out this year and create good long term habits along the way.
