In a world of political, religious and social turmoil, what do you need in order to have peace? Good friends? A vacation? Safety and security? Good family?

The majority of the time we think our lives have to meet these criteria so that we can truly feel at peace. Newsflash! Life will never be that perfect or easy. So then, how do we deal with the hardships and feel peace at the same time?

Growing up, we were told time and time again that peace is the absence of conflict and that peace can only be felt when there isn’t any hardship faced. However, that is not true! The bible teaches us that Jesus Christ gives us an inner peace that surpasses everything that the world could possibly offer! Isn’t that great news? If we constantly look to Him with faith, we can feel peace in any circumstance.

The world has taught us that:

1. You cannot find peace during difficulties.
2. Peace should come instantly and that we shouldn’t wait for it.
3. Peace comes from seeking the approval of others.
4. Peace comes when you reach a certain level of success in your life.
5. Peace is the absence of war.

Peace in Christ has promised us that:

1. Peace can be found in any circumstances.
2. Peace can even come in the midst of trials.
3. Peace comes when we live out the gospel of Christ and obey the commandments of God.
4. Being patient brings us peace.
5. Sincere repentance brings peace.

The question that we should now ask ourselves is this: ‘Why do we seek an expensive and temporary peace that is offered by the world when the Prince of Peace himself offers us a peace that is everlasting and free?’

If we make Christ the focus of our lives then we will really feel Him speak peace into our souls. Christ has said that,

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

Because of Christs’ sacrifice on the cross, everlasting peace is possible today and forever.
